Dyson V11 Outsize Stick Vacuum Review

The Dyson V11 stick vacuum is our go-to vacuum here at the CMS HQ. We moved into a new home last year which is larger than the home we previously occupied. Well, Dyson just came out with a new vacuum, the Dyson V11 Outsize, which is essentially the V11 but bigger. This makes it perfect for those with more square footage to vacuum. So, let’s have a look at the new V11 Outsize and understand why it is so suitable for larger homes.

Side by side the first thing I will tell you is I’ve omitted the docking station and the charger that came with the Dyson V11 Absolute. The Dyson V11 Outsize comes with two chargers—because it comes with two swappable batteries!— and one docking station, so I’ve included one charger. That’s right. It’s got a swappable battery which is a serious game-changer for the stick vacuum market.

If you look at the suite of tools, you’ll see a lot of similarities. We’ve got the motorized mini head. We’ve got our angled crevice tool. We’ve got our adjustable flexible brush. A couple of interesting things to note, this one comes with two additional extender tools. These are like flexible hoses that allow you to attach to your vacuum to get into those awkward places that you wouldn’t normally be able to get into. So, if you’ve got any challenging nooks and crannies that you need to clean, they’ve got a few new tools to help you.

The thing that I really want to draw your attention to is the sheer size difference. If you look at the bin size—the V11 Outsize bin is 150% larger than the capacity of the original V11. So if you live in a larger home, say a fully detached home with three or four bedrooms, you’re probably thinking a stick vacuum would be nice, but you don’t want to be constantly emptying the canister. Well, with the Dyson V11 Outsize and the new canister capacity, you won’t have this problem.

Looking at the two heads, the V11 Outsize is 25% larger than the V11 Absolute, which means this is designed to cover larger spaces more efficiently. Now, the performance is the same—you’re getting the exact same renowned Dyson suction and note that this works on both hard floor surfaces as well as carpets. We performed a test (see video above), where we choose a specific area and used both vacuums to cover the same area and counted how many strokes we used. We found that it was indeed roughly 25 percent less work when using the V11 Outsize as compared to the V11 Absolute.

These new size increases were intended to address the opinion that, “I love the concept of a stick vacuum, but I just don’t think it would suit my house, I need a full-size vacuum.” The V11 Outsize gives you all of the functionality and the flexibility of a stick vacuum, but now features a size that can efficiently handle larger spaces.

Run-time anxiety is a real thing. If you’re someone who has ever used a stick vacuum, you know what it’s like. You’re vacuuming and you’re trying to beat the clock before your vacuum loses power. Well, Dyson listened, and they’ve addressed this issue by providing two swappable batteries (and two chargers) with new V11 Outsize. I’ve been waiting for this feature for years! If you’re someone who’s in “camp corded” because you can’t even imagine losing power in the middle of vacuuming, but, you’re “stick vacuum curious”—this solves that problem. Each battery gives you up to 60 minutes of run-time (determined by the power setting you choose), so you no longer have to worry about run time anxiety with up to 120 minutes of run-time on the V11 Outsize.

So after using both of these machines, I think the V11 is still an incredible machine, and it is the basis for the V11 Outsize. It’s got all of the amazing features that I fell in love with over a year ago when I received it. It’s got the filtration. It’s got all of the awesome tech. But if you’re in a bigger home, and you have a corded vacuum, I think the V11 Outsize has solved all of the problems previously associated with stick vacuums.
