First, congratulations! You’re here because you’re thinking about getting the best vacuum in the world: a Dyson. Dyson vacuums are top-tier machines that have a huge variety of functions, attachments, and uses. And Dyson is always creating new products and innovations, so their vacuums always use the latest technology to get your space as clean as possible.
But before you buy a Dyson, you have to decide what the best Dyson is for you. With so many options to choose from, it can be a hard decision. That’s why we’ve put together a comprehensive list of Dyson vacuum cleaners, how they work, their special features, and which vacuum is good for which household.
The Dyson Omni-Glide
Starting off small, the Dyson Omni-Glide is what Dyson refers to as a pencil vacuum. It’s super slim and easy to tuck away. Out of sight, out of mind is an excellent rule when it comes to vacuuming, if I do say so myself.
This cordless skinny mini has a run time of approximately 20 minutes and a small bin. Turn it on and off with the touch of a button for quick and easy use.
The Omni-Glide’s omni-directional head has brushes that counter-rotate, so they can go in all directions. And the brushes are constantly flicking dirt up and into the vacuum for a really efficient clean.
When you use this vacuum, you’ll notice the head is kind of floppy. This is because the head is designed to go in every direction. And it even goes completely flat, so you can get right under most furniture.
Unlike other Dyson’s, the Omni-Glide’s head is not interchangeable, and this vacuum is only good for hard surfaces, not carpeting. However, the Omni-Glide comes with a few head tools so it can be used for upholstery.
Who should own this vacuum: Because of its small bin size and relatively short run time, this vacuum is perfect for someone living in a small space, like a one-bedroom apartment, bachelor apartment, or dorm room. It’s also a great second vacuum for a larger home; whip it out to clean small messes quickly.

The Dyson V8
The Dyson V8 is a step up from the Omni-Glide. What’s great about the V8 is that you get that amazing Dyson technology that people know and love at an entry-level price.
So you get that suction and filtration for the great clean that Dyson is known for. This cordless vacuum has a battery life of 40 minutes, so you can get a good amount of cleaning done on just one charge.
The Dyson V8 can be used on hard and soft floors and comes with a lot of attachments. This means you can use it for cars, stairs, upholstery, and more. And, of course, the V8 is great for both hard and soft surfaces.
Who should own this vacuum?: The V8 is perfect for people who live in medium-sized homes of 1000 square feet or less. This vacuum is an excellent budget tool while still a very strong machine that can tackle hard or upholstered floors and pet hair—a great purchase or gift for a new couple.

The Dyson V11 Outsize
The Dyson V11 Outsize takes the great technology of the Dyson V11 into a larger vacuum, making it great for people who live in a larger home.
A challenge Dyson was facing before the V11 Outsize was that people who lived in larger spaces didn’t want to switch to cordless vacuums because cordless machines couldn’t cover a large space. That was until the V11 Outsize.
The three key features of the V11 Outsize are the 60 minute run time, the swappable battery, and the increased bin and head size. Not only can the V11 last for 60 minutes, but it comes with two batteries. So if you aren’t finished after 60 minutes, simply swap your battery, and you’ve got another 60 minutes!
The V11 Outsize’s bin is 150% larger than the V11, and the head is 25% larger. While this might seem quite big, the V11 Outsize is excellent for cleaning a larger space. A large head actually cuts down on the number of strokes you need to clean a space, making your vacuuming faster and easier.
The V11 Outsize is great on carpeted and hardwood floors and comes with a light-up crevice tool. This is a plug-in tool that uses the power source from your vacuum and activates a light so you can see into crevices, making it easier to direct your crevice tool to those dusty spots.
Who should own this vacuum: This is the vacuum I recommend to anyone who lives in a larger home with both carpet and hardwood floors. If you have more square footage and you plan to do a lot of cleaning, you’ll really benefit from this vacuum. You don’t need a full-size vacuum to clean a large space. With the V11 Outsize, you get the performance of a full-size vacuum in a medium-sized cordless machine.

Dyson V15 Detect
If you love having the latest and greatest technology, the Dyson V15 Detect is for you. This is Dyson’s newest cordless vacuum, and it’s most advanced. The V15 uses a laser to light up the floor in front of you as you vacuum, so you can literally see every piece of dust.
I tested this model out myself, and I was amazed at how much dust I could see with the laser compared to regular light. This vacuum will get your floors the absolute cleanest of clean (calling all neat freaks!).
The V15 is definitely an expensive product, so it’s not for everyone. Dyson told me that the V15’s laser is one of the most expensive parts they’ve ever put on a vacuum and took them a long time to develop and perfect.
But that’s not all. The V15 also has a sensor that acts as a microphone in your vacuum. This sensor listens to the dirt getting sucked in. So, if you set your V15 to auto mode, your vacuum will regulate battery power based on the size of the dirt it’s taking in. If the sensor detects larger pieces of dirt, your vacuum will automatically use more power. If your vacuum detects small pieces of dirt, it will automatically use less power.
This exceptional vacuum technology makes your battery last longer and your cleaning so much easier! Plus, the V15 comes with a variety of great tools. My favorite is the hair screw tool. This tool sucks up hair and shoots it right into the bin, so it doesn’t get tangled up in the brush! This is a total game-changer for long-haired folks like me.
Who should own this vacuum: The V15 functions the same way a V11 does, so it can be used on soft and hard surfaces, upholstery, vehicles, stairs, etc., but you get this additional cutting edge technology. This vacuum is for you if you want the latest and greatest in Dyson technology.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 Pro
The only corded vacuum on this list, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 Pro is a great option if you aren’t ready for a cordless vacuum quite yet. This model is the vacuum I coveted when I started my cleaning business way back in 2006. And it’s the vacuum of choice for many professional cleaners.
The super long cord means you can vacuum a large room without having to change outlets, saving you time when you’re cleaning. And the Dyson Ball has a really wide head with nylon bristles and a rotating cylinder designed specifically for carpets. The head can suck up dirt deep within carpet fibers and is a really easy vacuum to rotate and move around.
Another great feature of this vacuum is the bin. As someone who runs a professional cleaning company, a vacuum bin that’s easy to empty and won’t spill everywhere is a must. And the Dyson Ball’s bin is super easy and quick to empty and hard to spill.
This vacuum also comes with a large sweep of additional tools, including a grooming tool. This means you can use your vacuum to groom your dog! More tools include hard and soft tools and a vacuum wand that allows you to get into all kinds of cracks and crevices. It’s easy to change out the tools, so you can accomplish a variety of tasks quickly.
Who should own this vacuum: The Dyson Ball Animal 2 Pro is best for someone who lives in a larger home and has a lot of carpeted surfaces. This model is great for someone who wants that Dyson technology but isn’t ready for a cordless vacuum yet. And it’s excellent for dog owners.
