If you notice a little rust spot, tackle it as soon as you can! Also, the item which got rusty needs to be hand washed and dried as opposed to exposed to moisture to avoid oxidization.
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 fresh lime
Rub the rusty area with the lime flesh to moisten it, and then sprinkle the salt overtop the rusty spot. Squeeze the lime juice over the salt and allow it to get wet. Leave this as is for up to an hour, and then use the flesh of the lime to scrub the salt. Rinse with white vinegar (which won’t cause rusting) and dry the item very well with a clean cloth.

Hi Melissa,
we got a rusty problem on our dishwasher. There is a light rust film on the (stainless steel?) coating. As it was there when we moved in, it has had time to set there for maybe a couple of years. Lime and salt wont do the job, neither does a stainless steel cleaner. Is there any possibility to get it clean?
