If mildew is a problem in the bathroom, there’s a simple solution you can apply to the affected area to eliminate it. The combination is quite powerful!
- 1/2 cup borax 1
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
Create a paste, and apply to the affected area. Scrub with a cleaning toothbrush and rinse well. For stubborn stains, apply the solution and allow it to sit for an hour, then scrub and rinse well. Spray plain white vinegar over the area once dried as an added anti-mildew boost, and remember to ventilate your bathroom during showers.

Hi, I found you when I decided to switch all towels over to microfiber ones (which I love, best switch but expensive at first) I have fallen in love with all your DIY recipes and putting all cleaning supplies into their own spray bottle (such a simple thing but never thought of it myself) This mildew eraser I am trying for the first time (just moved into a new home) but 1/2 cup vinegar + 1/2 cup borax is a liquid not a paste? I do see you have borax 1? I am not familiar with borax but the borax I found says betergent booster and multi-purpose household cleaner is that what is wrong? It is just more of a liquid so will try this and find out if this works.
Hi Melissa, What can I use as a substitute of borax?
I tried this on the grout between my bathroom tile and was amazed at how well it worked. Initially, it didn’t seem as if it was a clean as I wanted it, but after drying – nice and white. Thanks, Melissa!
I have use Borax to get rid of fleas. I put it on the carpet left the house for a couple of hours then vacuum it up. I actually left it under the furniture. No more flea problem.
Hi Melissa! I love your videos. For the first time though, something didn’t work. Borax and vinegar did not remove the mold from my bathroom grout. Any suggestions for very stubborn mold?
I’ve found so much satisfaction in following your cleaning advise. I’m not sure if I’ve missed cleaning natural marble. My guys shower is all marble and it’s my nightmare to clean. Ain’t I lucky?
I’d sure appreciate you’re thoughts…
