I am dying to know the solution, as well!! I have continued to waste money (& trees!) on Swiffer disposables, for floor cleaning, because I’m afraid using my washer/dryer for COPIOUS amounts of dog hair removal…will result in my house catching on fire (my pets!!!) and/or clogging/bursting the narrow plumbing, to my 125yr old home! I change my dryer filter EVERY time I use the machine; regardless, I regularly pull a thick, rectangular quilt of lint, dust/dander, & dog hair off my filter—simply, after, running virtually ANY regular load of bedsheets, clothing, or dog bed covers through the laundry, (separately), a couple times every week. I run my vacuum over both dog bed covers before I begin to wash them, on a gentle cycle. I ALWAYS have to use my upright vacuum’s attachments, to vacuum the dog hair out of my top-loading😤washing-machine drum, AFTER🥵, running 2 (just-vacuumed🤦🏻‍♀️) dog bed covers through my washer.

I tried picking/peeling the wads of dog hair off my completely-blackened white/cotton machine-washable dust-mop head, so I could put the bulk of the hair straight-into the trashcan, before putting the mop-head in the washer; I only went through the whole charade ONCE…before, switching right-back to the disposable Swiffers😕. Looking at all the disgusting filth is bad-enough, each time I peel a Swiffer dustcloth off, to drop it in the trash!! Messing with a whole multi-stage process, EVERY SINGLE DAY, just, in an effort, to keep pet hair/funk to a minimum…makes a filthy, neverending job even-MORE of a chore🫣! Yikes!

Hi Vanita! My name is Kimberley and iam from Tennessee. (Not that it matters lol) anywho..I get the cat wipes from Walmart in the pet/cat section. I have a mini-panther and he sheds to high heaven! I’m guessing he loves water he’s tried jumping in the shower with me several times..but uhmm NO NO..lol..I haven’t became brave enuff to actually bathe him lol..but he took well to the wipes.and they are coconut vanilla so it doesn’t dry their skin out. Wanna keep an eye out first use just to be sure they’re not allergic. Hope this helps. God Bless you and your fur baby!!

NO! Animals regulate body temperature through their layers of coat not to mention how uncomfortable it is for a dog or cat to be shaved. You need to identify the source of your potential allergy first then make reasonable changes. Shaving is reserved for extreme cases of matted fur or something hazardous all over the fur.

Wow! Within 5 minutes of reading your article I was scraping the cat hair from my carpet with a rubber squeegee. Then I tried a dampened squeegee on a chair and pillow. Both were amazingly effective and I didn’t have to buy a special-purpose tool or get an expensive vacuum to do it. Excited to try the other tricks on the list too (particularly the cat hair on clothes, which is what brought me here). Thank you so much for this.

I have been using the dryer on u le air for years now & it is a great help. I also use wool balloon the dryer & cheap hair catchers in the wash. I’m excited to try the static cleaning spray! My newest problem is I’ve redone both bathrooms in my home & the toilets seats in particular have become hair magnets, no matter what I use or try, the hair will hide in a clump somewhere & spread out as soon as I leave the room, help!! It must look to others like I have fur toilets.

Melissa, thank you so much for your helpful tips- my mom and I are both huge fans. One question: once you clean the floor with a reusable microfiber cloth (I’m using Bona), how do you get the pet hair out of the microfiber cloth itself?
