A nice smelling room – who doesn’t want that? There’s an easy recipe which takes a bit of planning, but boy oh boy is it ever worth it. The infusion of citrus and herbs leaves any space smelling absolutely fresh, clean and delightful. Mist this on soft surfaces to freshen up any room and just breathe in the natural, revitalizing scent! I also love this one because you can get creative with the recipes and try new scent combinations. If you have excess herbs, this is THE recipe for you!
- 1 cup of cheap, colourless and flavourless vodka (don’t use the good stuff)
- 1/2 – 1 cup of peels from your choice of any citrus fruit (grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, tangerine) – (the more peels, the stronger the scent because the more oils will be infused into the vodka)
- 1/2 – 1 loose cup of your favourite fresh herbs (basil, mint, rosemary, thyme, sage…)
- 1 cup distilled water
In a clean jar, add the vodka, peels and herbs, seal and shake gently. Allow this to sit in a cool, dark area for at least 2 weeks – the longer this sits, the stronger the scent will be. This will make you 1 litre of spray, so you can decide whether you want to have one large bottle or two smaller ones. Find a one litre bottle, or two 500 ml bottles and when done infusing, strain vodka and discard the peels and herbs. Fill the spray bottle(s) with distilled water and then add the vodka infusion. Shake well and spray as needed! Feel free to add in any additional essential oils – 10 drops or so – to enhance the scent.

What can we use instead of Vodka??
You can steep citrus peels in plain white vinegar or cleaning vinegar. But vodka smells better (it doesn’t smell) and disinfects better than vinegar. I’ve done both, both work. But vodka makes a better air spray.
How long can you keep DIY cleaners before they go “bad”?
I remember in a previous video she said about 3 months the most. After that they start lose there effectiveness.
