Cut up t-shirts, cheap rags from the dollar store, expensive paper towels and crusty old dish towels—these have been the tools of the cleaning trade for decades. Well, I say no more! Clean My Space believes in using the right tool to get the job done, and modern innovations in fabric and textiles have given us what we believe is THE BEST tool for many cleaning jobs: microfiber cleaning cloths.
In fact, we believe in this notion so much that we decided to develop our own line of premium microfiber cleaning cloths, designed specifically for cleaning tasks around the home. The Maker’s Clean line of microfiber cleaning cloths will not only drastically reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning and increase the quality of that clean, but let me just say—cleaning has never felt so good!
Microfiber 101
Microfiber is an ultra-fine synthetic fiber composed of an 80/20 mix of polyester and polyamide. It is such an effective cleaning tool because when we say ultra-fine, we really mean it! Microfiber’s multi-stranded fibers are two times finer than silk, three times finer than cotton and eight times finer than wool! This makes microfiber ideal for lifting dirt, absorbing liquids, and removing bacteria from surfaces while leaving no lint or streaks behind.
The Maker’s Story
While we were developing our cloths we spent oodles of time buying, testing, washing, and overall just abusing all of the cloths out there. We didn’t find one that we liked. So, we started bringing in samples of raw microfiber textiles from around the world; different weaves, different weights, and of course, different shapes and sizes.
We finally decided that an “all-in-wonder” cloth (a cloth that could do EVERY job), was not the solution. Sticking to our mantra of the right tool for the right job, we decided that four different, ultra-high quality microfiber cloths, with 4 different weaves would be the optimal solution.
Maker’s Clean Microfiber Cleaning Cloths
We quickly realized that many of the cloths already on the market were inexpensively manufactured, light-weight, and ultimately not long-lasting. This was counter-intuitive to what we wanted our cloths to be: high quality, highly absorbent and effective at lifting dirt, long-lasting (check out our care guide), but also luxurious and fun to use.
With all of this in mind, we spent the next year developing and refining our line of Maker’s Clean microfiber cleaning cloths. We were all ecstatic when we launched our first limited edition run in April of 2016, which sold out in just two weeks! We received a ton of feedback and were very proud to hear that the quality and efficacy that we were aiming for had been reached.
Our earnest little adventure into the world of microfiber cleaning cloths continues to evolve, but we can say with certainty, that we are saving real people time and money each and every day. We hope that you enjoy them too.

I’m trying to become more environmentally conscious and have read about how microfibers are getting into our waterways. The micro nature means that wastewater treatment facilities aren’t able to capture them. Is there an alternative you would recommend for folks like me who are trying to get into more eco-friendly habits?
Hi there, this is a good question. Unfortunately there is no perfect solution to this. At Clean My Space, we like to use microfiber cloths because good quality clothes last much longer than others, which means we are hanging on to them longer so they aren’t going into a landfill. You can clean with paper towels or regular cloths, but you’ll need to switch those out frequently, which creates more garbage. Microfiber cloths can last up to 500 washes, I’ve actually had some of mine for 10 years, so we’ve decided the benefits of this outweigh the downsides.
can i use the microfiber towels to dry my hair?
Of course!
Which cloths are recommended for stainless steel? Wanting to try the products, but I want to makensure I get the correct products for what I need.
Thanks in advance.
Can you add a guide or section on how to clean very dirty cloths? And what to do if you neglected cleaning your cloths for a while, after cleaning a space.
If I can’t get a microfiber cloth, what else would be good?
There are really no replacements for microfiber cloths. No other cloth will give you the same results.
Can you use essential oils in the washing when you clean the clothes?
You sure can! We recommend a few drops of lavender EO mixed with white vinegar in the softener compartment.
Want to buy some microfiber cloths but was wondering if you can only get them online. Does any store carry them if so would love the name.
Hi Heather – At the moment our Maker’s Microfiber cloths are only available online.
I am older, I have bought & wasted a lot of money on useless microfiber cloths. I am not related & do not know Chad or Melissa in any way but these cloths are absolutely amazing, this Granny is one very happy person ! :0) Love from Tasmania, OZ
Hi! So excited for you about these! Awaiting the arrival of your new book on the 7th! Wondering how these compare to the Norwex cloths. I didn’t hear you say anything about silver in yours.
Thanks from a candle!
Jen
It was supposed to say from a fan, not candle. I can’t even explain how autocorrect came up with that one.
I think it would be safe to say you would have been our only fan that is a candle 😉 That literally made me LOL!
I am interested in trying microfiber. Just a little confused on surfaces. When cleaning granite would you use a multipurpose or the electronics cloth. Also your clothes have two sides – a fluffly – and a smoother one. Is one for cleaning and one for drying? Could the multipurpose be used on granite without scratching?
Can you buff with the general purpose, ie. granite?
Hi! I’m waiting for the answer about getting the bacteria out of the cloths… Antonia asked on Dec. 10 and I don’t see an answer 🙂
Hi Julia! See the care guide here: http://makersclean.com/pages/care-guide
It has everything you need to know about keeping them clean 🙂
Love the videos! I’m wanting to try the Makers cloths. I just have a quick question cause I’m confusing myself lol. I am a big essential oil user, I clean everything with thieves household cleaner which is filled with tons of EO’s and I add some water to it. I saw you mention masking the smell of vinegar with EO’s.So is it safe to use the cloths with the EO’s. Im getting myself confused with oil based =) im thinking you are talking more of a greasy substance but I just want to ask so I don’t order and screw them up. Thank you so much in advance!
Yes- I’m talking more about grease here. Though I would probably stay away from using super oily cleaners. If they are really diluted like they are in my DIY cleaners, you should be good.
maybe the makers cloths are better but it seems every microfiber cloth i have ever had ends up with little dark balls on them and they dont soak up anything or wipe as clean and dry as paper towels or old tshirts. but i am talking about cleaning like counters, stove, bathroom and i just dont get along with them…..haha
Hi Debra! When you’re laundering your microfiber cloths are you following proper caring techniques? Check out this care guide for all the do’s and don’ts: http://makersclean.com/pages/care-guide
I am awaiting my order and can’t wait to use them. Will the cold wash with laundry powder kill the bacteria caught by the cloth effectively or should they be washed/soaked with a disinfectant solution? Thank you for clarifying.
Just got my cloths in the mail!! Can we use the cloths with all of your formulations of cleaners, even ones containing rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide? Thanks.
Exciting!! So glad you received them! You can use them with rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Here’s a link to the official care guide– it will tell you everything you need to know 🙂
